What Lineup is

Lineup is a directory where people looking for a co-founder publish a profile, founders list the projects they are building, and either can ask to be introduced to the other. Lineup composes an opening email and hands it to your own mail app; it does not send the message, host a conversation, or take any part in what happens next. Lineup is a place to find people, not a party to any relationship, company, agreement or venture that results.

Your account

• You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement.
• You must give a working email address that is yours and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• One account per person. An account is for a person, not an organisation, though a person may list projects on behalf of one.
• Tell us at [email protected] if you think your account has been used without your permission.

Publishing a profile

Nothing on Lineup is visible to the public. Publishing a profile makes it visible to other members who have published theirs, and lets you see and contact them in return. Publishing is one-way: you can edit every answer and hide the profile from the directory afterwards, but you cannot return it to a draft.

By publishing you agree that when another published member chooses to contact you, Lineup may disclose your account email address to them so that they can write to you from their own mail app. That is the whole mechanism of the service and it cannot be switched off while your profile is published. Hiding your profile stops contacts made through the profile directory; any project you have listed stays visible and contactable until you close or delete it.

Your content

Everything you write or upload — your profile, your projects, your images — stays yours. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, resize and process images, and display it to other members, for as long as it is on Lineup and as far as is needed to run the service. If you give promotion consent for a project, that licence also covers showing the project on Lineup's own channels until you withdraw the consent; withdrawal stops future posts and does not undo anything already shared.

You confirm that your content is true to the best of your knowledge, that you have the right to share it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights or contain anyone else's personal information without their consent.

What you may not do

• Use an email address obtained through Lineup for anything other than the introduction it was given for. No marketing lists, no bulk mail, no passing it on.
• Pose as someone else, or as an organisation you do not represent.
• Post content that is unlawful, harassing, discriminatory, misleading or obscene, or that promotes a scheme designed to deceive.
• Recruit for employment, sell services, or solicit investment in a way that is not an honest search for a co-founder.
• Scrape, crawl or copy the directory, or use automated means to obtain members' information.
• Probe, interfere with, or overload the service, or try to get around its limits — including the limit on how many addresses a member can obtain in a period of time.

Reporting content

If you come across something on Lineup that you believe is unlawful or breaks the rules above, tell us at [email protected]. Please say what you found and where — a link to the profile or project is usually enough — why you think it is a problem, and how we can reach you if we need to ask. You do not need an account to report something.

We will confirm that we have your report, look at it ourselves — no decision about content on Lineup is made by an automated system — and tell you what we decided and why. We aim to do that within a few days. We will not tell the person you reported who reported them, and our reply to you will not contain their contact details. If reports from the same source are repeatedly unfounded, or are plainly made to harass, we may stop acting on them and will tell you so.

Email from us

Two kinds of email come from Lineup, and neither is ever a message from another member — those go from their mail app to yours and never pass through us.

The first is about your account: verifying your address, resetting your password, and notice of a material change to these terms or of Lineup closing. Those are part of having an account and continue for as long as you have one.

The second is about Lineup itself — what is new, what has changed, the occasional nudge to come back and look. These arrive because you have an account, and you may stop them whenever you like, for any reason or none: every such email carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and the account section at the foot of your profile has a switch for the same thing. We will not use your address for anyone else's marketing, and we will not pass it to an advertiser. Our privacy policy explains the basis we send these on and your right to object to them.

Introductions and other members

We do not verify who members are or check what they say about themselves. You are responsible for your own judgement about the people you meet through Lineup, the information you share with them, and any agreement you go on to make. We are not liable for the conduct of any member, online or off, or for the outcome of any introduction.

Suspension and removal

We may hide or remove content, or suspend or close an account, if we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, if we receive a report we consider well-founded, or if we are required to by law. These decisions are made by a person, applying the rules set out above; nothing on Lineup is moderated automatically.

When we do restrict something of yours we will tell you: what we did, what it applied to, why — which rule or which law, and whether a report or our own review prompted it — and how to disagree with us. Replying to that message reaches a person, and if we got it wrong we will put it back where we still can. The message names the rule and the source of the decision, never the person who reported you. The only thing we will hold back is a detail we are legally forbidden to share. Nothing here affects your right to take a dispute to a court.

You may stop using Lineup at any time and delete your account from the account section at the foot of your profile; deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

The service

Lineup is provided free of charge and as it is. We work to keep it available and correct, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will find you a co-founder. We may change, pause or discontinue any part of it; if we shut Lineup down we will give members reasonable notice by email. It runs on infrastructure provided by third parties, and an outage of theirs is an outage of ours.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable to you for any loss of profit, business, opportunity or data, or for any indirect or consequential loss, arising from your use of Lineup or from any introduction made through it. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to NZ$100. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 that cannot lawfully be excluded; if you are using Lineup for the purposes of a business, you agree that those Acts do not apply to the extent the law permits.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For a change that materially affects your rights we will tell members by email at least 14 days before it takes effect; continuing to use Lineup after that date is agreement to the new terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them. Lineup is run from New Zealand and is for people building companies there, which is why we have chosen the law of the place our members are rather than the law of the place the company is registered.

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union or European Economic Area, nothing in the paragraph above takes away the protections your own country's law gives you and does not allow us to contract out of, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of the country you live in. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
